38 Week Update

IMG_0776I’m so excited! It’s the final countdown!

…I mean probably.

My due date is 8 days away! Of course, I know that there’s always a chance that Baby S. will decide to wait around a while longer, but I like to think this is the final countdown. I don’t want to give anyone the wrong impression. I really like being pregnant, but I’m definitely getting really super impatient to meet the little being who has been residing in my uterus for the last almost 39 weeks.

So, for what could be the final time, here are all the juicy details.

How far along| 38 weeks, 6 days

Baby’s Size| ?? Judging by the size of my stomach, roughly the size of a basketball.

Weight Gain| 26 pounds. Also known as more than I want to acknowledge.

Sleep| Meh. Good sometimes. Bad sometimes.

Clothes| All I want to wear is leggings and sweatshirts.

Cravings| None.

Food Aversions| Still peanut butter. Bleh.

Symptoms| My ankles started swelling! Luckily this only lasted for 2 days, but it was really unpleasant and really weird looking.

Movement| Still lots.

Belly Button| Still in.

Baby’s Position| Hard to tell. She’s definitely “dropped” and at last check she was sunny side up. I’ve been trying  to get her to roll over, but I’m not sure that it’s working so far.

Highlight of the Week| Massage! Seriously these are fabulous. If you’re pregnant, I highly recommend getting one. If you’re pregnant and in Lexington, Kentucky, I highly recommend Baby Moon.

What I miss|  Focus. I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I’ve had pregnancy brain hardcore for a while now. And if I didn’t mention it, it’s because I forgot because I’ve got terrible pregnancy brain.

Assuming Baby S. doesn’t decide to make her appearance in the middle of the freezing rain/ice storm we’re currently having here, check back next week for another update.

Pregnancy Update: 37 Weeks

Hey guys, remember how last week I was kinda freaking out because my due date was 26 days away? Yeah. That was silly. No reason to be freaked out. I know that now.

And here’s why. My due date is now 17 days away and my midwife told me on Friday that Baby S. could make her appearance any time.  O_O

So. yeah. NOW, there’s any actual reason to start freaking out.

What, you might be wondering, is there to freak out about? Oh. I don’t know. EVERYTHING. Just kidding. I’m actually not worried about that many things. Really, my main concern is not having everything ready. And by everything I mean, I’m worried  about three things: (1) that I won’t be finished with everything at work (2)  that I won’t have enough freezer food (3)  and that my house will be super messy.

I’ve been working to make sure that everything at work can be finished or described to someone else quickly, so we’re probably good there. And I’ve been freezing all our leftovers for like three weeks, so we’re probably good there too. It’s the last one that I’m really worried about. S. and I are not the neatest people. Which is why I’m concerned that our house will be a huge mess when Baby S. is born and then we’ll be so tired for the first few weeks that our current questionable levels of neatness will become even more slack and our house will basically become an episode of Hoarders.

So, that’s mainly where I am now. Here’s the other details though.

How far along| .37 weeks. 5 days

Baby’s Size| According to the internet, about 6.3 lbs.

Weight Gain| As of my Friday appointment, 23lbs. In completely unrelated news, I’m roughly the size of a walrus.

Sleep| Would be better if I didn’t have a cold and the stuffiest nose in the history of stuffy noses. Really though, it’s not that bad.

Clothes| How is it possible that my maternity shirts are so short these days?

Cravings| Still none really. Sweet potato fries a couple of nights ago, but they’re kind of my favorite food so I don’t really know if that counts as a craving.

Food Aversions| Peanut butter. Just discovered this earlier in the week when I ran out of almond butter.

Symptoms| Stuffy nose, some back pain, and some moodiness.

Movement| Still lots.

Belly Button| Still in.

Highlight of the Week| Baby shower at work. It involved a taco bar and lemon-raspberry cake and awesome co-workers. Oh. And getting the hospital bags packed.

What I miss|  These aren’t things I miss exactly, but there are some things that I’m looking forward to doing again. In no particular order, (1) regular hugs, (2) running, (3) sleeping on my stomach, and (4) yoga with full vinyasas.

Look for another update soon! Maybe even a welcome baby update… Yikes!

2012: My top 5 list

I know most everyone has already done a year in review post. I wasn’t planning to do one because, well, I kind of hate year in review posts. I think they’re boring and repetitive because I’ve almost already read whatever the blogger is reviewing. But then I started thinking about 2012 and realized that I didn’t write about a lot of awesome things that happened to me over the past year. So, to kick off 2013 I’ve made a  top 5 of 2012 list. Here we go!

5. S. turns 30 and we realize we’re adults. Or maybe that was just me. Seriously, though. Coming to the realization that you’re an adult is a little scary.

4. I started running regularly. I’ve wanted to be a runner for a while now, but never had the discipline (or patience) to actually do it. See, I’ve always been more of an elliptical or stair climber gal. Or really just any machine with a TV and in an air conditioned building. Spring 2012 I did it for real though. I started running. Outside even!

3. My job turned into my career. I’m not entirely sure when it happened, but sometime over the last year it did. My thinking about my work shifted and, honestly, it’s surprising and awesome.

2. I found a little but of balance in my life. Balance between the things I love to do and things I feel obligated to do. Notice I didn’t say the things I hate doing. I can’t think of anything that I truly hate doing, just things that I enjoy less because I’m obligated to do them.

1. We’re having a baby! This is something we’ve been waiting for for a while now and I’m so excited it’s finally happening!

Christmas 2012… Please ignore the bear dogs trying to escape.

All in all, 2012 was a pretty great year. Of course, it had its fair share of low points and those low points are going to stay with me into 2013 and 2014 and probably indefinitely. Regardless, the good outweighed the bad in 2012 and, really, what more can you ask for?  Not much, I think. Of course, the dream is a year-and a life-full of only good, but that’s unrealistic. So, this year I’m looking forward to a year that’s more sweet than bitter!
